Information
Financier is an elegant, authoritative serif with an undeniable British heritage. Drawn for the redesign of the Financial Times (FT) in 2014, it comprises two complementary families: Financier Display and Financier Text. Financier’s aesthetic comes from Eric Gill’s classic letterforms. Financier Text draws pragmatic detailing from Solus and Joanna; Financier Display takes Perpetua’s stately charm. Their respective italics reconcile mechanical sloped Romans and traditional calligraphic forms with a narrow, slight incline. They have a frugal, staccato grace, creating a formal typographic atmosphere that never feels dry. Financier’s versatility handles news and features in the arts, science and sport — as well as finance. Furthermore, Financier works across all media, from wide-printed broadsheets to narrow mobile screens.
