Designed in 2013 for Lotto New Zealand under direction from Interbrand. Wahoo is a simple geometric sans inspired by the rarely seen Elegant Grotesque, designed by Hans Möhring and released by Stempel in 1928. It’s triangular spurs contrast with round, full curves typical of the genre. This tension between sharp and soft are Wahoo’s defining characteristic. The numerals and weight distribution draw from ITC’s Avant Garde, designed by Herb Lubalin and Tom Carnese in the 1970s.
